Why Integrating Eaton UPS into your ATS Cabinet Can Change Power Reliability?

June 24, 2025

Traditional ATS systems switch loads from main power to generators during power outages. Even a 10 millisecond power outage can cause server crashes, data corruption, or industrial machinery to stop. Integrate Eaton UPS into ATS cabinets to create an "uninterruptible" power bridge.

Adding Eaton UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to ATS cabinets has the following main functions:

Provide uninterruptible power supply: When the mains power fails, voltage fluctuates, frequency is abnormal, etc., Eaton UPS can switch to battery power mode in a very short time (such as some Eaton UPS can be within 4 milliseconds), ensuring that load equipment will not stop working due to mains power outages and ensuring business continuity. For example, in places such as data centers and hospitals, even short power outages can have serious consequences, and UPS can prevent this from happening.

Improve power quality: Eaton UPS has a high-precision voltage stabilization function. For example, the output voltage accuracy of Eaton 9SX series can be controlled within ±1%, and the frequency accuracy can be controlled within ±0.1Hz. It can also reduce the harmonic distortion rate of the output current through technologies such as built-in harmonic filters, provide pure and stable power for load equipment, and reduce the damage to equipment caused by power anomalies. For some precision instruments and electronic equipment that have high requirements for power quality, it can effectively avoid failures or damage caused by voltage instability, harmonics and other problems.

Enhance system reliability: UPS cooperates with ATS. When one power supply fails, ATS automatically switches to another power supply. If the other power supply also has problems, UPS can continue to supply power as a backup power supply, forming multiple guarantees. At the same time, Eaton UPS itself has high reliability, adopts advanced design and manufacturing technology, and some series also support redundant parallel function, which further improves the reliability of the entire power supply system.

Why add UPS to ATS cabinet?

1. Fill the ATS switching gap

When ATS switches the main power supply (such as mains → generator), there is usually a millisecond power outage, and UPS can supply power through the battery at the moment of power outage to eliminate this gap and ensure the continuous operation of the load.

2. Dual redundancy protection

ATS is responsible for the automatic switching of the main and backup power supplies, and UPS is responsible for uninterrupted power supply in a short period of time. The combination of the two forms a dual protection of "power switching + energy storage buffer" to avoid load interruption caused by switching delays or failure to start the backup power supply.

3. Optimize power quality

UPS can filter voltage fluctuations, harmonics and other interferences in the power grid to provide stable power supply for the load, while ATS mainly solves the problem of power outages. The two functions complement each other.

Adding UPS to the ATS cabinet is an effective means to improve power supply reliability. The core lies in eliminating power outage gaps and optimizing power quality through the dual mechanism of "power switching + energy storage buffer".
